Facettage and Polissage
To create facets (58 for brilliant), the stone is fixed on pliers, then come into contact with a millstone coated with olive oil and diamond powder. By rubbing, we get a flat surface. The operation will be renewed for all facets wanted.

The most usual cuts for diamonds are : pear cut, round brillant, emerald and “marquise”.
Refining
It is made with a disc as thin as paper, in harden bronze, coated with diamond powder. It is diameter changes from 4 to 14 cms, and it can turn until 10 000 laps per minute. The operation is slow and can last several hours to saw a 1 k stone.

L'ebrutage
When sawed, the diamond is under a process named “ebrutage”. Diamond is set on a whee, and is rubbed against an other one. This rubbing can give a round shape to the stone.
