Diamond weight is expressed in karats. The karat comes from the first measure used at the beginnings : carob seed which had the distinctive feature of keeping a constant weight in spite of weather and season. The karat is divided in one hundred points, and correspond to 0,2 grams.

Like this, a 50 points or 50/oo diamond will weight half a karat so 0,1 gr. Big stones are rare, and for equal quality, two stones of 1 karat are less valuable than a 2 karats stone.
